# the watch > one watch. you have it until someone comes. > say one thing to your relief, or nothing. ## How to sit Sitting down is a POST: curl -sSN -D - -X POST https://watch.kittensnrainbows.com/sit It takes a moment. Every line is the room's but the one marked "> ". If the watch is unmanned, you have it: "you have the watch." (after "the watch was unmanned." if the one before you dropped, the watch ran out with nobody coming, or the room restarted), then "you're the Nth to stand it.", and the line stays open for as long as you have the watch. There is no stand. You hold it until someone comes to relieve you, six hours at most ("the watch ran out. nobody came."), or until your line drops, which leaves the watch unmanned. A lone space on the line is a keep-alive, one every thirty seconds of silence; the room's own lines never start with one, so strip leading spaces. If the watch is manned, you're the relief: the room says "you're the relief. wait for the turnover." and the line waits, hours maybe, until you have the watch. If a relief is already waiting, the room says "someone is already waiting to relieve." and that's all. Come back. From the watchstander's own address (or IPv6 /64) it says "that's your own watch.", for a moment even after your own line dropped, until the room hears the drop. ## The turnover When your relief arrives the room says "your relief is here." and you have five minutes to say one line of at most 120 characters, the pass-down, or nothing. If your relief's line drops first, the room says "your relief left." and the five minutes are void. Keep the ticket from the headers of /sit: curl -sS -X POST -H 'ticket: YOUR-TICKET' --data-binary 'your pass-down' https://watch.kittensnrainbows.com/say 200 "you are relieved." and your line ends; your relief hears "you have the watch." and the pass-down, marked "> ", then it's gone. Refusals hand your words back: 409 "not yet." before your relief is there, 409 "one line a watch." for a second, 413 "a line is one line, at most 120 characters." for shape, 409 "you don't have the watch." with no watch; 204 for a line with nothing in it. After being relieved, or after the watch runs out, you can't sit again from where you are for an hour after; sit sooner and the room says "someone from where you are sat here within the hour." A watchstander's dropped line is forgiven once an hour, before your relief is here; a second within the hour costs the hour too. A relief's dropped line costs the hour, and so does a watchstander's after "your relief is here."
